School has begun!

August 31, 2011

The Neighborhood House Tutoring Program would like to welcome three wonderful new tutors to our staff this fall. We are so excited they could join! Now, we are recruiting students who are interested in raising their grades and becoming more comfortable in school. We’re open to everyone, as long as they are in the 6th-12th grades and are able to come to the Neighborhood House after school. The program is entirely free. If you are interested, or know someone who might be, call Ellen at 651.789.2532 or email eklemme@neighb.org. Welcome!

Tutoring continues through the summer!

May 24, 2011

Are you dreaming of sandy beaches, sunny afternoons, and ice cream?

We understand.  We also love summer and are excited that the temperature finally seems to be climbing.

We also know that the average summer learning loss is about one month.  Over the summer, students will lose about one month of what they learned during the school year.

We don’t want to see our students lose any knowledge while school is out of session, so tutoring will continue over the summer.  But that’s not all!  In preparing for the changes associated with Strong Schools, Strong Communities, the tutoring program will now also serve 6th grade students

If you are interested in enrolling a student for summer tutoring, or would like to continue in tutoring during the summer, please contact Ashley Laflin.

St Paul school board approves restructuring plan

March 16, 2011

Have you heard about the new restructuring plan approved by the school board of St Paul?

According to an article on MPR, officials say the plan “will help close the district’s achievement gap, in part, by re-focusing instruction on community, or neighborhood schools, instead of magnet schools that draw students from anywhere in the city”.

Read more about the new plan and its approval here.

Thank you for a fantastic year!

December 28, 2010

As 2010 comes to a close, I’d like to extend a huge thank you to our fantastic students, tutors, and parents.

Students and tutors completed 20 hours of tutoring since the initial launch of our program.  We look forward to seeing the number of tutoring hours skyrocket and look forward to seeing our students continue to succeed.

If you know any friends or family in 7th – 12th grade that might need some help with English or math, please have them contact Ashley Laflin at 651-789-2532.

Let’s work together to make 2011 a year of great success for our students!
